The Gilis are a group of three islands located near Lombok, Indonesia, the biggest one being Gili Trawangan. Before getting to Gili Trawangan, a lot of people only think of it as a party island. However, once you get here, you see how much more this island has to offer.
From the chillest of vibes to the wildest of nights and everything in between, you can find something that suits your needs every night of the week on this magical island. We’ve compiled a list and made a small schedule for you if you sadly only have a week to see Gill T. Now, not everything on the list is dependant on the day, but it goes with the flow and energy of the island throughout a week.
Monday on Gili T
Let’s start the week off nice and chill. Monday night is the perfect time to head to the west side of the island and find a bonfire on the beach and grab your drink of choice. Beer, water, fresh fruit juice, whatever you’re feeling at that time. Sit back, relax and take it all in. You are now in paradise and time means nothing and all you have to do is enjoy yourself.
On the west side of the island, you will be able to find many bonfires that all create a different vibe. Some will have a drum circle around them, some with music over speakers, some with no music creating the perfect environment to chat with friends.
Tuesday on Gili T
After your first full day in the sun, you are going to be a lot more tired than you think you are. You were probably very excited to be here, so you crammed a lot of activities and time in the sun. This is why we are saying that Tuesday night is the perfect night to enjoy a movie on the beach.
There are restaurants along the west beach that offer this for free most nights, as well as a few that cost about 50 000 IDR but come with a free juice! While you’re adventuring around during the day, take some time to cruise by all the places and see which one is playing the movie that interests you the most.
Wednesday on Gili T
Wednesday nights are the big nights. If you’re only going to go out one night while you’re here, Wednesday night would be the night to do it. The Irish Bar starts the night off with some legendary live music and then brings in a DJ to keep hundreds of people dancing until 3am!
One of the good things about The Irish Bar is that it is a big open-air bar. Meaning you may get hot from dancing up a storm, but not as hot as you would if you were inside. There is tons of room, so if you’re at the front of the stage and need a breather, there is plenty of space for you to move to get some air. Not to mention they have great drinks at great prices!
Thursday on Gili T
After a wild Wednesday night, the island is usually pretty quiet on Thursday nights. That is why we are suggesting to have a chill, early night of simply watching the sunset and hanging out with friends. Recount the stories from the previous night, hydrate (water or a bit of the hair of the dog) and relax.
Make sure you stay on the beach until it is dark. Many people leave after the sun goes below the horizon but the real show happens after that. The sky turns all kinds of beautiful pastel colours and it is not something you want to miss.
Friday on Gili T
Many people don’t know this, but Gili T has a mini-putt place and many great pizza places. So for Friday night, bring out your inner child and play some mini golf with pizza!
The mini-putt place also has trampolines, basketball hoops and tons of room to run around. It is a bit off of the main road so it is quieter and away from the hustle and bustle. You can also make it whatever you want, as rowdy or calm as the group is feeling at that moment. Just like a birthday party when you were little.
Saturday on Gili T
Although we’re sure you will have been taking pictures all day every day at this point, hear us out. Spend your Saturday evening/night on an island-wide photo shoot. Hit up all the Instagrammable spots you’ve seen since getting here and take pictures like you don’t care who’s watching (as you shouldn’t).
There are many places for the perfect Insta pic; there are swings and hammocks over water, hearts made of lights, cabanas, restaurants with beautifully painted murals and so much more. You need to make sure you have the perfect bike for this as well! Biking is the best way to get around the island and see all the spots, and also provides a great prop for your pictures.
Sunday on Gili T
Sadly it is coming to the end of your week here, it’s Sunday night. We hope you had an amazing time! Bonded with the people you came with and made many new friends along the way. The perfect way to end a week like this is to grab a nice dinner and then join the Gili T Island Pub Crawl.
You’ll get one last look at the area as you’re walking around, play some games, hear some live music and, get a t-shirt to make sure you never forget your time here. The pub crawl offers a great vibe to say goodbye to this little island that has so much to offer and let loose on your last day of vacation!
As you can see there is so much to do on Gili T that you should never find yourself bored. During the day it is easy to walk around and see what you would like to do, but at night it can be a bit daunting to know where to go and what to do. We hope you find this list helpful.
